Winter itinerary, in short

A 5-day winter in the tropics of Mexico.

Day 1 Arrival

  • Arrived at the Cancun International airport around 5 pm. Took a pre-booked taxi to our hotel Bahia Principe Grand Tulum about 90 minutes away.
  • Checked-in, dinner and explore resort briefly.

Day 2 Tulum

  • Had a relaxed breakfast.
  • Checked-out the resort pool and beach.
  • Had lunch.
  • Took pre-booked taxi 🚙 to visit Tulum ruins about 20 minutes away. Take the trail around the ruins. If time permits, visit the Tulum beach nearby.
  • Visited downtown Tulum for some snacks and shopping.
  • Got back to the resort to enjoy dinner there.
  • After dinner walk around resort.

Day 3 Isla Mujeres

  • We enjoyed a breakfast at the resort.
  • We took a tour from our hotel to Isla Mujeres (about 2 hours away). The tour included a brief snorkeling stop, a stop on North beach and a few hours on the island.
  • Once on the island we had an amazing lunch at a small taqueria called Los Burritos.
  • Next, we headed to the beach. We spent the rest of the time walking the streets, doing some souvenir shopping.
  • We returned back to the resort by 7 pm just in time for our dinner reservations.

Day 4 Xcaret

  • Took pre-booked taxi to Xcaret park.
  • We spent the day in Xcaret checking out the various attractions, walking through the underground river, going to the natural pool, the beach 🏖️ and enjoying a large buffet lunch. We did not end up staying for the night time show, however it does appear to be a wonderful cultural experience.
  • We returned to our resort for a wonderful meal at one of the fine dining restaurants.

Day 5 Resort

  • We spent this day relaxing at the pool and the beach in the morning.
  • Enjoyed a poolside lunch.
  • Relaxed in the afternoon.
  • We had dinner at the resort and visited the market right outside the resort for some traditional dresses and pottery.

Day 6 Coba and Ek Balaam

  • After breakfast we took our private taxi to Coba about an hour away. We rented bicycles to explore the Coba ruins. We had lunch in El Cocodrillo in Coba. Drove to Ek Balaam (an hour and fifteen minutes from Coba). There was a long line to get tickets to this archeological site and they only accept Pesos.
  • It took over 2 hours to get back to the resort from Ek Balaam.
  • Once back, we headed straight to our dinner reservations. We enjoyed a walk on the beach as this was our last night here.

Day 7 Rest & Return

  • We spent the morning at the pool and the beach, after breakfast.
  • Then we cleaned up, changed, packed our belongings and checked out.
  • We enjoyed lunch in the buffet restaurant before being picked up by the pre-booked transfer back to the airport. Beware the traffic back to the airport and allow an extra hour for the drive there.
Back to Mexico
